Bridging the Gap Between Medicine and Law
Hi, I’m Melissa Sims — a Registered Nurse, Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, and Life Care Planner based in Naples, Florida. My journey into legal nurse consulting wasn’t a straight line. It started in a law office as a receptionist and has evolved into a multifaceted career that now helps attorneys across Florida make sense of complex medical issues in litigation.
With over 20 years of paralegal experience and a strong clinical nursing background, I offer attorneys a rare dual perspective. Whether you’re evaluating a medical malpractice claim, preparing for trial, or building a life care plan for a catastrophic injury case, I bring medical clarity to legal complexity — and deliver the kind of support attorneys can count on.
My Path to Legal Nurse Consulting

I started my career in the legal field, quickly moving from receptionist to legal assistant, then earning my Paralegal Certificate and building my litigation experience at both plaintiff and defense firms. My work included time at Kline & Specter, Rawle & Henderson, and an in-house role with The Dow Chemical Company, where I supported national litigation strategy.
But my career took a pivotal turn when I returned to school to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). I was driven by a desire to combine legal strategy with medical understanding — and that’s exactly what I’ve done.
Since then, I’ve worked in clinical settings including:
Progressive Care Units (PCU)
Medical-Surgical Nursing
Clinical Research
Insurance Case Management
Endoscopy & Recovery
Addiction & Detox Services
Throughout my nursing career, I continued to serve as a contract nurse paralegal, refining my ability to review records, coordinate experts, and draft legal documents from a clinically informed perspective.
